On 26th March 2023, Avianca will introduce a brand-new transatlantic route linking Palmerola and Bogotá. This will be the third flight by Avianca, which already operates flights twice weekly from Guatemala City and five weekly from San Salvador, to Palmerola’s eleventh destination.
On this new route, Avianca will run four flights per week, leaving from Bogotá at 14:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. These days, the return trip leaves Palmerola at 17:20 and returns to Colombia at 21:00. (Local times)
Palmerola International depends heavily on this route. The new airport’s initial stop in South America is Bogotá. Additionally, from the airline’s hub in Bogota, customers flying with Avianca will be able to connect to 48 destinations.
The opening of this new route marks an important turning point for the new hub, according to Peter Fleming, general manager of Grupo EMCO’s division for the new Palmerola airport.
“We were working together with Avianca for months to launch this route. The main goal was always to connect Honduras directly to South America. We are also helping achieve the government’s goals, which are to improve the country’s connectivity, tourism, and foreign investment,” Fleming said.
By April, Avianca will provide flights from Bogota’s El Dorado International to 54 locations. The national airline of Colombia will offer 1,244 weekly flights to 19 local and 35 foreign locations. The primary domestic destinations for Avianca out of Bogotá will be Medellin (139 weekly flights), Cali (138), and Cartagena (103). Internationally, they will include Miami (28), Lima (28) and seven additional cities (including Madrid, Mexico City, and So Paulo) with 21 flights per week.
