The Sylvia Earle, a second specially constructed small ship for Aurora Expedition, was launched and will set sail for the first time next month.
On 10th December, the 132-passenger ship will depart Ushuaia, Argentina for Antarctica.
The Greg Mortimer’s sister ship, the Sylvia Earle, was launched in 2019 and is the newest ship in the line. Sylvia Earle is a marine biologist, oceanographer, and conservationist.
Each of the ship’s seven decks is named for a notable female conservationist, including Sylvia Earle herself, Jo Ruxton, Carden Wallace, Sharon Kwok, Bernadette Demientieff, Asha de Vos, and Hanli Prinsloo.
There are two restaurants, a gym and wellness center, a swimming pool, whirlpool baths, a lecture lounge, many viewing spaces, a Zodiac launching platform, and other amenities on board.
Chief marketing officer Hayley Peacock-Gower said: “Our goal is to immerse our expeditioners in some of the world’s most remote and fascinating places and, in doing so, create lifelong ambassadors for the planet.
“More than 30 years in the making, Aurora Expeditions has a track record for pioneering adventure and discovery, and respectful travel is at the core of our ethos.
“Female scientists are leading the way in global conservation initiatives and we want to honour these seven extraordinary women who work tirelessly to make the world a better place.”
