art’otel London Battersea Power Station, managed by The Park Plaza Hotels, officially welcomes guests with a one-of-a-kind hotel experience that combines art, design, and hospitality with never-before-seen views. The hotel’s suites, spa, public Art Gallery, and even the light fixtures have all been masterminded and developed by renowned Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon, blurring the limits between art, product, and design.
By fusing distinctive interior design with a diverse collection of paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, and tapestries, Hayon has given the hotel a distinctive character that is sure to inspire, enthrall, and thrill visitors. His plans for the art’otel Battersea are influenced by the Power Station’s past, present, and future as the hub of a brand-new neighborhood and cultural center in London.
“I wanted to create a journey for guests and bring a completely new hotel experience to London, one that blends great comfort with a new vision of contemporary creativity,” says Hayon. “Artistic expression is the soul behind the interior design of the hotel. London Battersea Power Station is set to become a new hub for art and creativity, bringing something truly special to this iconic location, and it’s been a true honour to work on this project.”
The fun design elements, custom-made furniture, and artwork created by Hayon at art’otel provide a wholly distinctive immersive hotel experience. As soon as visitors walk through the door, they’ll feel as though they’ve stepped inside a live piece of art; they’ll find themselves in a surreal entrance hall decorated with Hayon’s iconic The Dreamer and hand-drawn illustrations.
The main foyer of the hotel, which is influenced by surreal cubism, has a charming, wall-length cabinet of curiosities that is packed with intriguing items that Hayon has painstakingly collected from all over the world. The cabinet’s eclectic collection of ceramics, glassware, and vases reflects the cultural diversity of the capital city where art’otel is based. The lobby area creates a calm and relaxing atmosphere that marks a change from the bustle of the city into a calming retreat.
The Art Gallery, a homage to the sculptures of American artist Alexander Calder, is a part of TOZI Grand Café. Sculptures hang far above beside specially designed tapestries, filling the drum-like room. The gallery has an ethereal, dreamlike feel thanks to a chandelier that resembles a mobile.
Even in the public restrooms, which are equally devoted to the theater experience, artistic expression is being explored. Hayon aimed to create a setting that felt like entering a reimagined version of a luxurious dressing room—sleek, stylish, and iconic.
Passengers are directed via emerald green halls by classic brass lifts to bedrooms with contemporary expressionism as their inspiration. With a blend of vivid colors and deep tones that provides a lively yet calm setting, the design approach for the rooms centers on combining outstanding comfort with fun and boundary-pushing design. Hayon’s main goal with the guestroom experience is to conjure playful luxury.
Jaime Hayon has received numerous honors, including multiple ELLE Decoration International Design Awards. Wallpaper* Magazine listed Jaime Hayon in its top 100 list and recognized her as one of the most influential artists of the past ten years. Times magazine praised her as a “visionary” and one of the most creative icons.
The art’otel London Battersea Power Station offers visitors a constantly-changing calendar of exhibitions and activities in addition to housing Hayon’s artwork, inviting visitors to surround themselves with the imagination and inspiration of each artist. In order to be accessible to everyone, art’otel covers various topics and genres and frequently showcases up-and-coming artists.
