The Anantara Royal Vila Vicosa, located in a former monastery in the Alentejo region, will become Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas’ second establishment in Portugal in 2024.
The hotel will have 16 villas, 10 suites, 50 guest rooms, an indoor pool, and both outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Three restaurants, including a private fine dining room and a wine cellar, will be available for guests to eat at. The Anantara Spa, a fitness center, and three conference rooms will also be available as amenities.
A former 15th-century monastery will house the five-star Anantara Royal Vila Vicosa, and design firm Broadway Malyan has been entrusted with preserving the legacy of the current building and respecting its history and heritage.
Anantara made its debut in Europe in 2017 with the opening of Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort; its most recent addition in southern Portugal is a part of the brand’s growth throughout the continent. With further openings scheduled for later this year in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, it presently boasts a portfolio of more than 40 international hotels.
Anantara and the Portuguese Group Investaureum have partnered to create the Anantara Royal Vila Vicosa. Dillip Rajakarier, group CEO of Minor International and CEO of Minor Hotels, the organization that owns Anantara, stated: “We are delighted to continue the expansion of our luxury Anantara brand in Portugal in the historic town of Vila Vicosa.”
“Located in Alentejo, an increasingly sought-after tourist destination, the upcoming Anantara Royal Vila Vicosa Resort promises unforgettable experiences that characterise the brand.”
