Ambassador Cruise Line, a UK start-up, will add a second ship to its fleet in 2023, signaling its confidence in the sector.
Costa, which operated the 1,200-passenger ship as AidaMira for German line Aida, has sold it entirely for an unknown fee.
The ship, which was launched in 1999, will be renamed Ambition and will receive the same comprehensive renovations as sister ship Ambience, including the installation of cutting-edge pollution reduction technology.
According to the firm, this will lower nitrogen oxide emissions by nearly 95% compared to existing norms.
Both ships in the Ambassador Cruise Line fleet will be among about 10% of the existing world cruise fleet licensed to sail in rigorously environmentally protected seas, thanks to the installation of new ballast and sewage water treatment systems.

Ambition will join Ambience in offering ex-UK sailings with a “premium-value, authentic cruise experience” aimed primarily at the 50-plus market. Ambience is scheduled to begin operation in April and has a capacity of 1,400 people in 798 cabins.
In addition to London Tilbury, the line’s second ship will depart from regional ports such as Newcastle, Dundee, Belfast, Liverpool, Bristol, and Falmouth in summer 2023.
The entire program is currently being finalized and will be available for purchase in the spring.
Ambition, formerly Mistral, Grand Mistral, and Costa neoRiviera, has 714 cabins, 125 of which have balconies, and 113 of which are suites.
It contains two main restaurants, a casual bistro-style café, four bars and lounges, and a pub.
A tiered main theatre, casino, card room, library, and craft studio will be added to this.
A wellness center, gym, two swimming pools, and shops are among the other amenities.
Christian Verhounig, the company’s CEO, stated: “We are delighted with the warm reception given to the introduction of Ambassador to the market – a new brand, proposition, and our first ship.
“This announcement of the addition of Ambition to the fleet reflects our confidence and willingness to invest in the future of Ambassador and the cruise sector.
“We are particularly excited to be offering regional departure options for Ambition in 2023, whilst also offering guests who travel from London Tilbury a greater choice of sailings and ships on which to enjoy them.
“Clearly, we are all focused on the success of Ambience’s maiden season which commences in April this year, but we believe existing and new guests, as well as our trade partners, will be thrilled to hear about Ambassador’s growth plans.”
A “bumper” 2023-24 season brochure will contain the entire schedule of itineraries and services.
