This winter, Air India will resume its six-times-weekly service to and from India through Birmingham.
There is now only one weekly service between Birmingham and Amritsar offered by the Indian carrier. However, it intends to add three Delhi routes and two additional weekly services in Amritsar beginning the next month.
From October through December of this year, the new frequencies will gradually be introduced. Prior to Covid, Air India ran seven weekly flights from Birmingham to India.
Campbell Wilson, Air India chief executive, said: “Adding frequency and improving connectivity from major Indian cities to more international destinations is a significant focus. It is a clear signal of our intent, and an early step towards a much bigger aspiration.”
Birmingham’s aviation director, Tom Screen, added: “We’re doing backward somersaults of joy at the prospect of increasing our India flight frequency to six a week. So many of our customers want this. We’re thrilled it’s happening.”
