On 1st February, Air India resumed its nonstop service between Delhi and Milan, putting the route back on its network map. Prior to the pandemic, Air India also provided nonstop service to other European cities including Vienna and Copenhagen in addition to Milan. Now that borders are opening, all of these flights are returning, and Air India is in a strong fleet position.
Air India began operating a nonstop, four-times-weekly service from Delhi to Milan on 1st February. Flight AI137 departed Delhi somewhat later than planned at 14:58 and arrived in Milan 8 hours, 30 minutes later at 18:58 local time.
On Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays, the carrier will run this service. The scheduled departure and arrival times for the Delhi-Milan service are 14:20 and 18:30, respectively. The return flight AI138 will take off from Milan at 20:00 and land in Delhi at 08:00 the following day.
Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, said: “With the launch of this flight to Milan, we will be spreading our wings to cover major destinations in Europe and fulfill a key element of our five-year transformation plan, Vihaan.AI, that is to strengthen India’s global network. The introduction of these flights is another step in that journey, in sync with our fleet expansion. We look forward to welcoming guests and sharing Air India’s warm Indian hospitality with them.”
In the next weeks, nonstop flights from Delhi to Vienna and Copenhagen will be added to Air India’s service to Milan. These flights had to be canceled by the carrier in 2020 as a result of COVID, but they are now being resumed in an effort to significantly expand its presence in Europe.
Air India uses a fleet of 27 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with 238 seats in economy and 18 in business class for its trips to Europe. The airline operated by the Tata Group will shortly begin offering service to London Gatwick from Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Goa, and Kochi.
