A new twice-weekly route between Shannon and Paris has been announced by Aer Lingus and will begin at the end of the summer. Flights will start in September and run through January, then resume in March through October of the following year.
From 22nd September to 7th January of 2024, the Irish airline will operate twice-weekly flights between Shannon Airport (SNN) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). The service will then take a short break before starting up again on 14th March and continuing through 28th October. For the first time in 12 years, Shannon Airport is now connected to CDG, and Aer Lingus predicts that this route will be highly sought-after by both leisure and business travellers.
Aer Lingus’ CEO, Lynne Embleton, stated, “We are delighted to announce the launch of the Shannon – Paris Charles de Gaulle route with Shannon Airport, and are very much looking forward to welcoming thousands of passengers from the region onboard as they travel to one of the most popular European city destinations on the Aer Lingus network.”
The service will debut during the 2017 Rugby World Cup, which will be held in France from 8th September to 28th October. Depending on Ireland’s performance in the competition, it will no doubt draw in business and leisure travellers as well as sports fans. The route between Shannon and Paris CDG that Aer Lingus had previously stated it will run special Rugby World Cup flights on has now been extended into 2019.
According to The Shannon Airport Group’s CEO, Mary Considine, “This new service will be a major boost for Shannon, and we know it will be an extremely popular destination for leisure and business travelers. The service will be timed to allow for passengers traveling from Paris to connect onwards from Shannon to New York JFK and Boston via Aer Lingus.”
On this trip, Aer Lingus will use a selection of its Airbus A321LR aircraft. The Aer Lingus A321LR is hailed as the most environmentally friendly aircraft in the fleet, with up to a 20% reduction in fuel usage and a 50% reduction in noise. It can accommodate up to 184 passengers, including 16 in a full lie-flat business cabin and 168 in economy.
Here is the full schedule:
For travellers connecting to Aer Lingus’ transatlantic network at Shannon, specifically New York JFK (JFK) and Boston Logan (BOS), the timings are optimal.
Flight tickets can be purchased online through the Aer Lingus website, with one-way prices starting at €39.99 ($43.67) including taxes and fees. This year, travellers at Shannon Airport can fly to 35 destinations in 11 different countries. The airport has made good progress since the post-pandemic era, and on 2nd June it recorded its highest daily passenger total since 2016.
