Everglades National Park is situated in the South of Florida. It has an area of approximately 6.100 square kilometers and, because of its huge area, it has, not only one but three main entrances! The park is home to approximately 40 different species of mammals, such as the white-tailed deer, the Nine-banded armadillo, and the Florida panther! Everglades National Park is characterized by subtropical weather. There are two main seasons throughout the year: the wet season and the dry season. The summer months, from about mid-May to November, coinciding with the wet season. Temperatures can get extremely hot, ranging from 30°C to 35°C. This season is also characterized by lots of precipitation. Thunderstorms and hurricanes are frequent, making these months particularly humid. On the other hand, winter months, from the beginning of December to mid-May, coincide with the dry season. Temperatures are pleasant, ranging from 12°C to 25°C. Obviously, this season tends to be drier and precipitation is limited. The dry season is the perfect period to visit the park as mosquitoes and biting flies are basically non-existent and as the water levels drop, animals can easily be seen gathering around the remnant water holes.

 

The park offers only a few limited options when it comes to food. You will be able to find a limited selection of snacks and beverages in four main areas: the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Centre, the Royal Palm Visitor Centre, the Flamingo marina store and the Gulf Coast Visitor Centre. You can also purchase food at the Everglades Guest Service food track, normally parked in the Flamingo area. Nonetheless, the Everglades National Park recommends all its visitors bring all the food and water needed during their trip.

The perfect activity to do with your family and kids is surely camping! Just spend one night with your family away from daily distractions and with no WIFI connection! Spend a night under the starry sky while enjoying a slow pace of life. In the park, you will find several camping sites, such as elevated camping platforms, as well as beach and ground sites that can be easily reached by canoe or kayak. However, there are also a few camping sites accessible to hikers. You will need a permit to legally camp in the park, so make sure to request one at the Flamingo or at the Gulf Coast Visitor Centres.

If you’re here with your partner you can spend a day paddling in the wonderful water of Everglades National Park. For instance, you can organize a kayak or canoe trip; the options are countless! Some trips may last a few hours while others can last for days! You will explore the park’s freshwater marsh, the waters of Florida Bay and visit the many mangrove forests. You can either bring your own canoe or kayak or rent one when you arrive at the park. If you’re not confident enough, you can even hire a tour guide to guide you through the many sections of the park. Hell’s Bay is the perfect location if you want to paddle through the park’s mangroves while if you want to challenge yourself, you can try the Turner River Canoe Trail, which takes about a day to complete and will take you to some of the best places of the park. 

Another great idea is to rent a couple of bikes and try out one of the many available routes in the park. If you want to make your life easier you can even rent an e-bike. There’s plenty of bike routes to choose from and you can either decide to go for a small journey of about 5 kilometers or pick up a longer route of up to 25 kilometers.

If you’re coming to Everglades National Park, then you need to try one of their many guided tours. There are plenty of options to choose from. For instance, you can book a two-hour tram tour through the Shark Valley section of the park.
