A trip to New York can be made to fit almost any budget, but there are certainly plenty of opportunities to enjoy the finer things in life in The Big Apple. With its designer boutiques, elite cocktail lounges, and 76 Michelin-starred restaurants, it’s the perfect place to embrace the luxury lifestyle.
Although it’s famously the city that never sleeps, you’ll still want to ensure you’re experiencing the height of decadence when you do decide to pause for some rest and rejuvenation. Here is a selection of the most expensive and luxe hotels on offer in New York – so you can take your overnight stay in style.
Rates start at around $900 per night for a stay in this five-star hotel on the Upper West Side. You’ll find the hotel situated on the 35th to 54th floors of the Time Warner Center – meaning that every room offers breathtaking views via its floor-to-ceiling windows; either of the Hudson River or Central Park and the city skyline.
Its decor is Asian-inspired – from the opulent reception area to the sumptuous interiors throughout the rooms and suites. The hotel’s Aviary Bar overlooks Central Park and offers inventive cocktails and delicious food. Its orchid-filled Asiate restaurant offers fixed-price menus with dishes like Spanish Octopus, Seared Foie Gras, or Grilled Quail.
The hotel also has a full-service spa with a vitality pool, amethyst-crystal steam chamber, and massage rooms. You’ll find the hotel’s Asian influence extends to its spa offerings too – enjoy a Thai Yoga Massage and then relax afterward in the Oriental Tea Lounge. There’s even a Thai Yoga Studio onsite with stylings inspired by a Buddhist Temple.
The Park Hyatt in New York is a five-star hotel conveniently located in the center of Midtown Manhattan, immediately opposite Carnegie Hall. It occupies the first 25 floors of the iconic One57 building – one of the most elite addresses in the city (the top two floors were sold to Michael Dell for over $100 million in 2015). You might choose to stay in the one-bedroom Royal Suite – set over 2,300 square feet and with a full kitchen, personal bar, wet bar, and views over Central Park it will set you back around $30,000 a night.
The Park Hyatt also boasts an impressive and tranquil spa – the Spa Nalai, on its 25th floor. Whilst swimming in its 65-foot central pool you can also enjoy the calming soundtrack of performances from Carnegie Hall as you dive underwater. With three-story windows offering views over 57th Street and stylish lighting hanging over the pool, this is definitely not your average swimming experience.
If you’re looking for a lavish and glamorous hotel stay, then look no further than The Mark on Madison Avenue. Its location nestled amongst the most high-end shops in New York is indicative of its sophisticated appeal – and whilst sipping cocktails at the Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant you’re sure to share the bar with the city’s trendiest elite.
The Art Deco-styled lobby is instantly recognizable from its iconic black and white striped marble flooring. The hotel’s eclectic interiors were designed by Jacques Grange, a French interior designer who has decorated and designed interiors for an impressive array of fashion icons.
Double rooms start from $700 but if you want to truly enjoy The Mark’s signature elegance then you’ll want to stay in the US’s largest suite – its 16th-floor penthouse spread over 10,000 sq feet. Guests will no doubt enjoy relaxing in the suite’s library, conservatory, or private rooftop terrace and outdoor dining space. A stay in The Mark Penthouse starts at $75,000 per night.
The Ritz-Carlton offers an unparalleled location in Central Park South – a skip away from renowned restaurants, Fifth Avenue, and Broadway. The hotel manages to blend ‘old New York majesty’ (loyal to its 19th-century roots) with a contemporary update – think gold-plated vaulted ceilings, chandeliers, mahogany furniture, and lashings of marble.
The hotel features a gastro lounge (Contour) offering locally sourced small plates and refined craft cocktails. On the second floor, you’ll find a sophisticated Club Lounge with a concierge service and daily culinary presentations. Along with the Club Lounge, there’s also the luxury La Prairie Spa – a tranquil place of calm amidst the bustling city, and the first US spa from the renowned Swiss skincare brand. The spa has six treatment rooms and both gentlemen and ladies steam rooms. If you’re visiting during the colder months then the spa’s Winter Warming Massage might appeal – a warming massage said to ‘induce a state of bliss. There’s also a state-of-the-art fitness center and movement studio with on-demand classes and Peloton bikes.
The Ritz Carlton’s Royal Suite provides panoramic park views, private dining space for 12 guests, a personal butler, and multiple living rooms. Rates for the hotel start at around $900 per night, but the Royal Suite will set you back at around $19,000.
