Thailand is known for its large population of wild Asian elephants. Since they are wild, it is not uncommon to come across one, but maybe not exactly in these circumstances.
This is the amazing moment where an elephant is holding up traffic after taking a nap across the whole width of a road.
The stubborn elephant lay still for about 20 minutes on the road in Nakhon Ratchasima, northeastern Thailand, making some bystanders late for work, like motorist Nattawat Patsungsing.
He managed to film the stunning creature from his car, he made sure to be silent to avoid spooking the elephant.
You can see in the video after he zooms in the elephant moving its body around like it was dreaming.
Finally, it kicks up its legs, stands up and stares at the motorist as he reverses slowly away.
It stares at Mr Patsungsing as he slowly reverses away.
Mr Patsungsing says: ‘Oh boy…you’re taking the entire road. Can you please move, little boy? I really have to go to work.’
The elephant is called Nga-Thong and is known to local wildlife officials for often lying on the concrete road for warmth.
“Nga-Thong doesn’t like to reveal himself when the road is busy with cars and loud buses, so most of the time it’s national park officers who see him. They said he’s very shy. “
“I was waiting about twenty minutes until he finally got up. I was late for my shift at work that day but I was happy to see him so close.”
