Maldives: Covid Vaccine Available on Arrival

As part of a campaign to revive the country’s tourism industry, the Maldives plans to provide Covid-19 vaccinations to tourists upon arrival.

In an interview with US TV channel CNBC, the Indian Ocean country’s tourism minister Abdulla Mausoom said that providing vaccinations to visitors was part of the country’s “visit, vaccinate, and vacation” policy.

Offering vaccines to tourists, according to Mausoom, will make visiting the Maldives “more convenient.” To enter the nation, visitors must present a negative PCR test as well as proof of a hotel reservation.

However, Mausoom did not include a timetable for when tourists would be able to receive vaccinations upon arrival. He stated that the programme will only begin after the Maldives’ entire population had received both doses of a vaccine.

Currently, just over half of the Maldives’ population, including 90% of tourism staff, have received a first dose of the vaccine.
