The inauguration of Qatar Airways’ service to Lyon, a different French city, was recently celebrated. The airline expects that this new route will meet the growing demand from tourists for this part of France. The inaugural flight was marked with a specially crafted buffet for customers in all cabin classes.
First-Ever Flight to Lyon
On 3rd July Qatar Airways carried out its first flight to Lyon, France. The airline celebrated the event by serving traditional French fare and a specially curated menu of fine French food to passengers in both business and economy class.
Along with Qatar Airways Vice President of Sales, Europe, Mr. Eric Odone, Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport Director of Commercial and Marketing M. Pierre Grosmaire welcomed the inaugural flight from Doha. Chief Executive of the Qatar Airways Group, Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said, “I am delighted to announce the launch of Qatar Airways’ inaugural flight to the renowned French city of Lyon. Qatar and France mutually benefit from a longstanding strategic partnership in various fields, including diplomacy, trade, and tourism. Our expanded network in France is a testament to our successful cooperation, and we look forward to welcoming French and European passengers to travel through our hub, Hamad International Airport…”
Setting up the Dreamliner
On Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday of each week, one of the airline’s Boeing 787s will fly the Doha-Lyon route. There are 232 economy class seats and 22 business class seats on the aircraft.
Lyon is renowned for its iconic architectural structures and unique culinary offerings. With this new route, Qatar Airways intends to draw many of the city’s numerous tourists, who are drawn there since it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tanguy Bertolus, the chairman of the management board of Aéroports de Lyon, believes that Qatar’s most recent flight increases tourists’ interest in the area. Lyon is also a great starting point for exploring the adjacent Alpine mountain range. He remarked, “… This connection between the capital of Qatar and Lyon will further strengthen the appeal of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, as well as the Lyon metropolitan area by offering more options to and from the Middle East and Asia, particularly in Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.”
Presence in France Growing
Qatar Airways continues to offer service to Paris and Nice while adding Lyon as its third French destination. Actually, Qatar recently resumed service on one of its Doha-Paris flights with the Airbus A380 superjumbo.
The aircraft will return to Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) on 1st July reflecting Qatar’s determination to fly their biggest aircraft to Paris during the busiest time of the year. This summer, Qatar Airways is providing three daily flights to CDG. It is the second-most-served European destination by the airline, according to data from the first week of July. Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays will see the A380 service to Paris in operation.
