Son Bunyola Hotel and Villas Opens in the Majestic Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca”

In the stunning Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca, Sir Richard Branson’s newest luxury hotel, Son Bunyola Hotel and Villas, has opened officially and is already positioned to become the newest residence for those seeking luxury on the island.

It is no secret that Sir Richard Branson has a long-standing affection for Mallorca. He previously built one of the island’s most renowned hotels and then bought Son Bunyola with the goal of sharing one of Mallorca’s most outstanding and unrivalled locations while also restoring a magnificent 16th-century finca.

The Son Bunyola Hotel, which has been in the works for more than 20 years, has now joined the estate’s three showpiece homes. Not just as Mallorca’s newest luxury hotel, but also as a significant piece of Mallorcan history that has undergone painstaking restoration and is steeped in history on a magnificent 1,300-acre estate bursting with citrus fruit trees, almond and olive groves, vines, and vineyards; and three stunning miles of Mediterranean coastline.

The Son Bunyola Hotel, which has 26 rooms and suites and has been elegantly designed by local architect Gras, includes the main finca and the Tafona as well as a number of annexe buildings. Each room and suite has been tastefully decorated by local interior designer Rialto Living, who has added a touch of Mallorcan charm with the collection’s renowned home from home character. The Tafona, where the former site of the historic olive press now stands, has two exquisite showcase suites with terraces and two distinctive Tower Suites with panoramic views of the sea and mountains, one of which was formerly a 13th-century Mediaeval defence tower.

The hotel has two restaurants, including a Mediterranean restaurant, a tapas restaurant, and a number of outdoor eating terraces, all of which are run by acclaimed Executive Chef Samuel G. Galdón, who was recently appointed. Along with two treatment rooms and an impressive 28-meter swimming pool with panoramic views of the famous Foradada and surrounding countryside, the hotel’s comprehensive wellness programme offers outdoor yoga sessions on the estate and historical walks around the highly protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. The variety of activities available across the estate will include anything from the addition of Aqua cycles and new Pickleball lines to the tennis court.

The finca, which is now the Son Bunyola Hotel, was meticulously renovated during the construction project, proudly keeping all original characteristics to seamlessly mix new design with old aspects to commemorate and bring into view the rich history of the building. The finca dates back to the 1500s. From the original floor tiles and staircase to the antique oil press and original altar, which now take centre stage in the hotel’s Sa Terrassa restaurant, intricate features are on display in every part of the new hotel.

The land is believed to have been inhabited for thousands of years, with stone towers scattered across the estate dating back to the Bronze Age (1,300 BC) and Iron Age (850 BC). This makes it the ideal location for hiking and biking, with dedicated estate bikes and trail maps that encompass the estate’s rich history. The oldest part of the building dates back to the 13th century.
