The opening of Martinhal Residences and Martinhal Lisbon Oriente has been announced by Martinhal Resorts. A significant new chapter for the Martinhal brand, which is already well-known for its collection of family hotels and resorts in Portugal’s top destinations across Lisbon and the Algarve, has just begun with the opening of the opulent riverside hotel and residences in Lisbon’s modern Park of Nations neighbourhood. The brand’s creators, Chitra and Roman Stern, welcome visitors to their first hotel and branded homes development in Lisbon’s booming cultural core. They have imagined a new level of design, refinement, and service.
Martinhal Lisbon Oriente provides the ideal hybrid solution. It was created for a new era of travel and is geared towards meeting the needs of savvy visitors, whether they are families or bleisure travellers searching for the flexibility of self-catering alternatives with the additional benefit of luxury hotel services. Its 82 hotel rooms range from studios to one, two, and three bedroom self-catered apartments and are fully furnished with amenities like full kitchens with sophisticated Portuguese porcelain tableware, smart Smeg appliances, and washer/dryers. There are also 70 Martinhal Residences, including a group of 7 penthouse residences. They can all see the Tagus River and the nearby park.
Visitors to Lisbon seeking extra space and the comforts of a resort within a city have access to first-rate amenities like a 24-hour front desk, a Family & Baby Concierge, an indoor and outdoor heated pool, a fitness centre, a Martinhal Kids Club – “Raposinhos” (Little Fox) with child care programmes tailored to the youngest guests, and Terrace Café Bar Restaurant, the hotel’s signature restaurant opening onto a magnificent outdoor terrace. The restaurant’s decor pays homage to the hotel’s position in Lisbon’s “Oriente” neighbourhood by providing Middle Eastern, Indian subcontinent, and Japanese-inspired cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The’mobile office’ generation visiting Lisbon for both short-term and long-term visits is best served by a fully furnished business centre with co-working areas, call pods, and cutting-edge technology (WiFi 6).
The building’s architecture, which was sustainably created, was commissioned by internationally renowned Portuguese architect Eduardo Capinha Lopes, who built a contemporary green façade in a great location in the Park of Nations. The property’s extensive terrace gardens and well-planned green spaces have been planted with olive trees with the goal of amplifying the impression of space while enhancing the building’s thermal performance, shielding it from the sun, and lowering energy use and noise pollution.
The property’s renowned pieces by some of Portugal’s best painters pay homage to the vibrant local art scene. The restaurant and lobby feature large-scale trash art installations by renowned street artist Bordalo II that send a strong message about the value of protecting nature, while Kruella D’Enfer, a well-known Portuguese visual artist and illustrator, has painted vibrant, wacky murals. Additionally, Graça Paz, a prominent contemporary artist from all over the world, adds a splash of colour to the flats with her distinctive geometric designs.
The Park of Nations, a modern neighbourhood along the river that was developed for the 1998 World Expo and is now home to some of the city’s top family attractions, including the Oceanarium, the Science Museum, and the panoramic Cable Car (Telecabine Lisboa), is the ideal location for the hotel. It is situated in the new northeastern area of Lisbon. Additionally, the location presents top-notch musical and theatrical productions (Madonna and Andrea Bocelli will both appear at the Altice Arena in 2023, to mention a couple). It is conveniently situated within a short drive or metro ride from Lisbon’s historic centre and just five minutes by car from the airport.
Based on two adults sharing a studio apartment and paying room-only, hotels start at €165 per night. Rates for a one-bedroom apartment start at €278 per night, depending on 2 people and 1 baby sharing the space with self-catering (room-only) accommodations.
