The ‘twilight check-in’ option offered by Virgin Atlantic for travellers departing from Manchester will be back in operation. The practical choice enables visitors to check in the night before their journey.
Prior to the pandemic, Virgin Atlantic provided early check-ins and luggage drops at Manchester and London Gatwick (LGW), and the company has since brought back the service there. The day before flights, the service is accessible for all flights leaving from Manchester and is open from 16:00 to 20:00. Twilight check-in services allow travellers to check in the day before their journey, allowing them to skip the security queue the day of their flight because their luggage and check-in are already done. This can be especially useful for early-am flights because it gives passengers more time to sleep and allows them to skip the morning lines. Additionally, it saves you the trouble of dragging around bulky luggage on the day of your journey, allowing you more time to unwind and take advantage of airport amenities.
According to a Virgin Atlantic spokesman, “From 31st May 2023, Twilight Check-In will be available for all flights departing the following day from Manchester, every evening from 4pm to 8pm.”
New York (JFK), Atlanta (ATL), Orlando (MCO), and Barbados (BGI) are the current four destinations Virgin Atlantic flies to from Manchester’s renovated Terminal 2.
Due to its availability on all flights throughout the day, not only early departures, Virgin’s twilight check-in is noteworthy. The check-in procedure must be completed in the presence of all passengers. Tickets, a passport, and luggage are requirements. If you are dropping off additional baggage the next day, it is not possible. Open on the day before your flight from 16:30 to 20:00
On the day of your flight, you won’t need to return to the check-in area once you’ve finished the process. Those who need special help or have buggies or strollers that need tags are the only exceptions, and they must return to the check-in counter on the day of departure.
Despite their value, twilight check-in services are not very popular; if they are, they are often only offered for early flights leaving the following day. The majority of airlines don’t allow check-ins the day before flights, however, if you need this service, be sure to ask your airline.
For flights leaving before noon the next day, low-cost carrier Jet2 in the UK offers twilight check-in at Manchester Airport, while British Airways provides a comparable service on a limited number of flights from London Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick.
