American Airlines Extends Service on Five European Routes Through Winter 2023-2024

Five routes are extended from three hubs, according to data from Cirium.

According to Cirium’s scheduling information, American Airlines will continue to operate five European routes after September. Three of the carrier’s hubs—in Dallas, Charlotte, and Philadelphia—will continue to operate flights.

An American Airlines spokesperson has confirmed with Simple Flying that the DFW-DUB, PHL-LIS, and CLT-MAD routes are going year-round.

The pause on the PHL-BCN route in October is due to aircraft availability.

A Rise in Flights to Europe

American Airlines, located in Fort Worth, has extended service on five European routes into the winter, most likely as a result of the strong demand for travel to Europe. Routes from Charlotte to Madrid, Philadelphia to Barcelona and Lisbon, and Dallas to Dublin and Rome are also part of the extension. More than 300 additional flights have been added to American’s schedule for the months of November and December.

Flights between Charlotte and Madrid were set to halt on 27th October as of last week. Cirium data only extends through the end of March 2024; however, it appears that American is offering year-round service on the route, as flights are booked through the end of March. Both the Philadelphia-Lisbon and Dallas-Dublin routes follow the precise dates. Flights to Rome were planned to end on 28th October, one day after the previously listed routes, and they will continue to operate daily through 7th January. Beginning on 15th February, daily flights will restart; they are planned to last through the end of March.

Between September 2023 and March 2024, the itinerary for the Philadelphia to Barcelona route features two noteworthy gaps. Flights are scheduled every day through 4th October, before taking a little break and starting up again on 29th October. After operating daily through 7th January, flights will resume, although this time for a longer period of time, through 15th February, similar to the Dallas-Rome route. Delayed aircraft deliveries may have an impact on the schedule. American has been contacted by Simple Flying for comment, but as of the time of writing, they have not responded.

The adjustments in today’s Cirium data reveal a sharp rise in flights from Dallas, Charlotte, and Philadelphia to Europe year over year this winter. This winter, American will operate flights between its three hubs to 13 cities in Europe.

Resuming flights to Auckland

American was scheduled to resume its flights between Los Angeles International Airport and Auckland Airport beginning on 21st December, according to reports from Simple Flying a few days ago. The information from Cirium’s schedule modification report for today supports the rumors. As of right now, the airline will operate daily flights to Auckland till 14th February 2024. After 14th February, the airline will operate three times per week between the two cities till 2nd March. American operates seasonal flights from Dallas to Auckland, with service beginning on 28th October and continuing through March 2024.

With United Airlines unveiling its largest-ever schedule and expansion to the region last week, competition is escalating on routes between the United States and the South Pacific. The Chicago-based airline has the most flights between the two regions on its calendar than any other American airline.
