Earlier this month, American Airlines ran a special flight to celebrate a happy occasion for numerous kids dealing with serious diseases. For the event, the carrier collaborated with Make-A-Wish, The Points Guy, and Walt Disney Company. A red carpet and vibrant balloons were also part of the celebration.
American Airlines ran what it refers to as the “Best Flight Ever” on 12th April. 26 seriously ill children were transported on a special flight from New York JFK to Orlando, Florida (MCO), which was planned in conjunction with Make-A-Wish, The Points Guy, and The Walt Disney Company.
The plane’s privileged passengers got their wish to visit the Walt Disney World Resort fulfilled. American’s Vice President of Communications and Marketing, Caroline Clayton, said, “At American, we know firsthand how the magic of travel can inspire hope, promote relaxation and create lifelong happy memories — and that’s our wish for these special kids and their families. As the longest-standing airline partner of Make-A-Wish, we are especially proud to celebrate World Wish Day this year with a donation that ensures more families can have their own best flights for years to come.”
For the once-in-a-lifetime trip for the kids and their families, American rented a plane. All of the crew members were volunteers, and the airline organized a unique gate celebration and in-flight experience. Upon their arrival at the airport, the families were greeted by a group of volunteers and admirers who applauded for them as they walked the red carpet to a pre-flight party with face painting, music, refreshments, and entertainment.
Families on board were treated to live entertainment by actor and musician Michael James Scott, who presently plays the Genie in the Broadway production of Disney’s Aladdin. The Points Guy’s Brian Kelly served as the host of the flight, which also included interactive games, a unique in-flight cuisine, and other surprises.
On both of the flight’s legs, the plane was greeted with a water cannon salute and a VIP reception at MCO. Kelly remarked, “I’m so grateful to Make-A-Wish, American Airlines and all of our partners and volunteers for helping bring this magical experience to life. Travel has the power to change lives, and having the opportunity to share this joy with so many deserving children and families was one of the most memorable experiences of my lifetime.”
As they anticipated World Wish Day on 29th April, Leslie Motter, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish America, remarked that the Best Flight Ever was a part of the celebration of hope and community.
According to American Airlines, up to 50 million AAdvantage® miles donated to Miles for Global Health and Well-Being by the end of this month will be transferred to Make-A-Wish. Additionally, it encourages clients and staff members to donate miles if they can to support this admirable cause.
