The ancient structure next door has been expanded into the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot, which is situated in the center of New Orleans’ Central Business District, and is now available to the public and visitors. 33 additional bedrooms and suites, over 12,000 square feet of adaptable conference space, and the city’s newest French brasserie are among the new additions.
Reservations for King are currently being accepted at kingbrasserieandbar.com.
Both 501 and 521 Tchoupitoulas Street are presently occupied by the fully operational hotel; the latter being the recently constructed structure that houses King. As of right now, the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot has 235 rooms, numerous ballrooms, lovely event space, and three distinctive restaurant and bar ideas.
As of right now, the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot has 235 rooms, numerous ballrooms, lovely event space, and three distinctive restaurant and bar ideas. King joins the award-winning, energetic cocktail bar Peacock Room, which frequently hosts music and art events, and Gospel Coffee & Boozy Treats, a neighborhood café and shop for boozy frozen treats.
The opening makes Hotel Fontenot an excellent place for locals and guests to experience some of the best sights, sounds, and flavors of New Orleans. The Peacock Room and the rest of the hotel have already established the property’s reputation for hosting distinctive events and pop-ups, and the new building will build on that reputation.
The MARKZEFF-designed hotel’s adaptive reuse expansion combines elegant design with the newly added structure’s distinctive historical character. The design team made use of the existing brick walls and recovered wood from the original construction, which was constructed in 1844 by James Gallier, who is also known for Gallier Hall and the Pontalba Buildings.
King is a three-meal restaurant that is situated on the ground floor of the new structure and has entrances on Tchoupitoulas Street and through the hotel lobby. Its design is based on the popular brasseries of the French Riviera region, but it also incorporates the rich culinary traditions of New Orleans. With 125 seats and options for dining and drinking in the inside dining room, at the roomy bar, or on the terrace, the upscale casual restaurant provides a warm atmosphere.
The hotel’s adaptable meeting and event spaces are located on the second floor, accessible from King, and are ideal for weddings, business events, and everything in between. The 5,500-square-foot Canray Ballroom, which is named after the musician Canray Fontenot who served as the hotel’s inspiration, and the smaller, 554-square-foot Evangeline Ballroom are two of the stunning spaces. The second-floor outdoor terrace facing Tchoupitoulas Street, which is ideal for a ceremony, group dining, or a celebration holding up to 265 people, is one of the building’s most distinctive characteristics in addition to the interior space.
33 new guestrooms and suites that are both distinctive in their historical construction and tied into Hotel Fontenot’s design theme, which heavily draws on the city’s music and arts culture, are located on the third and fourth floors of the newly added building, along with additional meeting space. On the third floor is the 1,000+ square foot room Lala.
Executive Chef Samuel Peery will handle the catering menu for parties and gatherings held in the new venues in addition to spearheading the culinary effort at King and the hotel’s other restaurant and bar concepts. The magnificent dessert and pastry menu will be developed under the direction of pastry chef Lanna Talley.
