Marriott Bonvoy’s expanding collection of distinctive, non-chain hotels called Tribute Portfolio has added a new member with the opening of laïla, Seychelles, a Tribute Portfolio Resort. This marks the brand’s first presence in the Seychelles and offers a serene and natural botanical haven for exploring and rejuvenating on the island. The resort is located near Anse Royal, a picturesque white sandy beach on Mahé, the largest island in the Seychelles. It is designed to showcase the island’s hidden treasures to travelers and locals who seek unique experiences and a connection with the community while traveling.
MMAC Design has created a resort with a calming color scheme that harmonizes with the beautiful tropical surroundings, accented by bold green tones. The interiors are carefully curated with intricate details, such as the lobby ceiling that reflects the shapes of the Seychelles’ islands. The resort’s 76 unique guest rooms are decorated with nature-inspired aesthetics, featuring a mural of the Seychelles’ plant silhouette, hand-woven macramé bed boards, and room separators made with wood and rattan, which are commonly used in the island’s traditional architecture. The resort also offers eight boutique suites, including the Senior Suite, which features a private plunge pool and a private terrace with views of the Indian Ocean and surrounding mountains, making it a great choice for families or groups of friends.
The resort offers a variety of unique amenities, such as a water sports center, outdoor swimming pool, 24/7 gym, spa, barbershop, and kids’ recreation area. It is tailored to guests who want to feel part of a larger community and seek out experiences that immerse them in the local culture. The resort offers a wide range of activities that showcase the Seychellois spirit and captivate guests’ minds. For instance, guests can participate in village experiences such as Creole cooking classes, traditional weaving demonstrations, and bonfire evenings with the sounds of Moutya music. Guests who want to experience the local lifestyle can join insiders on day trips to explore the village market, go on fishing trips, hike through the jungle, or take expeditions to neighboring islands with the help of native experts. In addition, guests can enjoy sunrise yoga, jogging along the resort’s tropical trails, making jewelry with foraged shells, or participating in water sports such as paddle boarding, kayaking, and snorkeling at the famous uninhabited ‘Ile Souris’ coral island, where a variety of coral fish and sea turtles can be found.
At the laïla Spa, guests can unwind after a day of adventure with a range of facial and body treatments offered by expert therapists. These treatments use only organic and handmade products made with local ingredients like coconut, vanilla, and cinnamon for a truly healing experience.
The resort has five restaurants and bars that are designed to reflect the local community and appeal to both guests and locals. Laroul serves an international selection of cuisines with a Seychellois twist for breakfast and dinner, featuring daily catches from the Indian Ocean and seasonal produce like Grilled Red Snapper and Flambé with Star Fruit. Kafe Kreol Beachside Bar and Restaurant has a rustic atmosphere and serves authentic Creole and Italian cuisine, as well as classic and locally inspired cocktails made with Takamaka Bay rum and fresh local produce such as coconuts and tamarind. The Laroul Bar by the pool offers expertly prepared drinks and snacks for guests who want to enjoy a drink while they swim.
