Alaska Airlines Adds Three New Routes from San Diego

Three new routes by Alaska Airlines have been announced from San Diego International Airport. On 15th June, flights will start to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Eugene Airport (EUG), while flights to Tampa International Airport (TPA) will start on 4th October.

With the additional additions, Alaska Airlines’ network now offers 35 destinations from San Diego. On the San Diego-Tampa route, the oneworld member won’t have any rivals, but on flights to Washington, DC, and flights to Eugene, Allegiant Air and Southwest Airlines will be its rivals.

Neil Thwaites, regional vice president of California for Alaska Airlines, praised the information, said: “Our guests in San Diego asked for more nonstops to the East Coast, and we’re excited to add service to both the nation’s capital and to Florida’s vibrant Gulf Coast. With convenient daytime schedules, award-winning service and a premium product offering, guests will arrive refreshed and ready-to-go.”

All services will start out being offered everyday. Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737-900 will be used to fly between Tampa and Washington, DC. SkyWest Airlines, the carrier’s regional affiliate, will fly flights to Eugene utilizing Embraer E175 aircraft. Strangely, flights from and to Eugene have the same flight numbers listed.

A total of 178 passengers may be accommodated in each of Alaska Airlines’ 89 Boeing 737-900 aircraft, which can accommodate 16 passengers in first class, 24 passengers in premium class, and 138 passengers in main cabin.

At San Diego International Airport, the new routes were also well-received, according to Kimberly Becker, president and chief executive officer of the county’s Regional Airport Authority. “The announcement of new destinations on Alaska Airlines is a great way to start the year. Our community benefits from the addition of flights to the East Coast and Pacific Northwest. We thank Alaska Airlines for the addition of these routes and their continued partnership at SAN.”

Alaska Airlines recently declared record financial achievements for the previous year, with yearly revenue 10% greater than the level observed in 2019. The airline is still recovering from the epidemic.

Alaska Airlines has never had a stronger presence in California, with two hubs (Los Angeles and San Francisco) and two target cities (San Diego and San Jose). The airline runs more than 330 flights each day to, from, and within the state during its busiest periods.
