Passengers can celebrate the luck and abundance of the Lunar New Year from 22nd January to 5th February with specially curated menus in Emirates lounges in Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok, blockbuster movies onboard in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Vietnamese, and exclusive deals from EmiratesRED duty-free shopping.
On 22nd January, the first day of the Lunar New Year, breakfast delights will be offered in the First and Business Class lounges in Dubai’s seven Emirates Lounges, featuring the traditional “Cheung Fun” steamed rice noodle roll filled with dried shrimp and scallops. Passengers can have Cantonese roast duck bao with plum sauce, delectable poached shrimp and vegetable dumplings with soy and vinegar dip, or Chinese rainbow salad with smoked salmon, sesame dressing, and soya ginger dressing during lunch and dinner. Dessert options in the First Class Lounges will include a sweet and light mango coconut cake with spices or a black tea cake. In the Business Class Lounges, a tart yuzu tartlet paired with green tea powder will be available. Passengers may also stroll over to the distinctive Emirates old-fashioned ice cream carts to indulge in the chef-made, limited-edition Matcha green tea ice cream.
Passengers visiting Singapore can eat steamed rice with Chinese chicken sausage wrapped in a lotus leaf, where the sticky glutinous rice is thought to represent family unity. The stir-fried prawn with green asparagus is one of the additional main dishes. Prawns are prepared symbolically to assure happiness in the upcoming year and are pronounced as “Ha” in Cantonese, which mimics the sound of laughter. Delicious desserts include pineapple upside-down cake with mango boba; pineapple is regarded as one of the lucky fruits in Chinese culture since the name for pineapple, “ong-lai,” in Hokkien Chinese, means “fortune comes.”
Passengers can enjoy Chinese steamed red snapper with celery ginger sauce, variety dim sum, shrimp Siew Mai, and chicken and shrimp from Ha Kao in the Emirates Lounges of Bangkok.
All passengers traveling on Emirates are welcome to use the lounges; First Class, Business Class, and Silver, Gold, and Platinum Skywards members get free access to all lounges. Other travelers can use the lounge starting at USD 125 and can take advantage of the amenities for up to four hours prior to takeoff.
During the months of January and February, up to 23 Mandarin and 14 Cantonese movies will be accessible on Emirates, all of which will have English subtitles, for Lunar New Year travelers.
Given that gifts are a significant part of the Lunar New Year’s greetings, Emirates passengers can benefit from exclusive shopping deals with EmiratesRED and purchase any two perfumes to receive a USD 15 discount on brands like Amouage, Givenchy, YSL, Roja Parfums, Versace, Cartier, and Hermes. When purchasing two items from the same brand, such as Cerruti watches, Benefit cosmetics, Elizabeth Arden beauty, Clogau jewelry, and others, passengers can additionally save up to 15%.
