The fleet of riverboats and small cruise ships operated by American Cruise Lines now features high-speed Starlink satellite internet connection, a product of Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.
The new wi-fi service, which has been called a significant advance, will be provided gratis on 17 ships traveling on more than 50 routes through 35 US states.
The constellation of “lower earth” satellites that power Starlink maintain a steady connection to the line’s constantly moving ships and riverboats.
The business stated: “American beta-tested the Starlink service in 2022 and cruise guests who experienced the platform during the testing phase responded with rave reviews.”
Between 100 and 190 passengers can board American Cruise Lines’ small ships, which travel all across the US, including the Mississippi, Columbia, and Snake rivers as well as Glacier Bay, Alaska, and the Florida Keys.
