Ryanair Plans to Expand in Bournemouth and Liverpool for Summer 2023

Ryanair’s newest UK growth airports have targeted Bournemouth and Liverpool for expansion.

For the summer of 2023 from Bournemouth, three more routes will be introduced, expanding the airline’s network to 18 locations.

As the no-frills airline increases capacity by 30% over this summer, Carcassonne, Edinburgh, and Venice have been added.

Ibiza, Madrid, and Shannon are three additional destinations that Ryanair is adding to its network from Liverpool John Lennon airport.

With flights beginning this winter to Copenhagen, Malta, and Szczecin in Poland and running until next summer, a fourth aircraft is headquartered at the airfield in Merseyside.

Next summer, Ryanair will provide over 125 weekly departures from Liverpool to 32 locations.

As Ryanair bases a second aircraft at the south coast airport, frequency to Alicante, Faro, Girona, and Palma from Bournemouth is increasing.

More than 550 local jobs, including 60 direct roles, are said to be supported by the move.

It came after Bristol Airport’s summer 2023 announcement of new flights and increased frequencies.

Eddie Wilson, the CEO of Ryanair, said: “Ryanair is driving the UK’s economic recovery through our delivery of year-round tourism, regional investment and job creation. 

“However, if UK tourism is to continue to grow, especially in regional  locations like Bournemouth, the government should immediately scrap APD in full for all travel and provide incentives for airlines, like Ryanair, to stimulate growth and recovery for the UK, an island-based economy ,and its regions.”

Bournemouth airport managing director Steve Gill added: “This is fantastic news for our passengers and offers even more choice from their local airport. 

“We’re on course to have recovered 95% of our pre-pandemic traffic by the end of this year having served 800,000 passengers and Ryanair has been a huge part of that. 

“With new routes to Carcassonne, Edinburgh and Venice, 30% more weekly flights next summer and 18 routes in total, this is a huge vote of confidence by Ryanair in Bournemouth airport.”

Liverpool airport aviation development director Paul Winfield said: “The addition of a fourth based aircraft in Liverpool for summer 2023 is a sign of Ryanair’s confidence in the market from Liverpool and we look forward to expanding our range of destinations with the carrier in the future.”
