As the first stage of an ongoing makeover comes to an end, The Dorchester plans to debut a new bar design inspired by James Bond in December.
The hotel’s “many links” with the movie franchise and its author, Ian Fleming, who stayed and dined at The Dorchester throughout his life until his passing in 1964, are said to be honored by the Vesper Bar.
Bond awakens in a suite at The Dorchester on his 45th birthday in William Boyd’s continuation of the James Bond series, “Solo.”
The Dorchester has held numerous press junkets for the films over the years and has welcomed all six James Bonds, 14 Bond Girls, four M’s, and nine Bond villains as guests of the hotel. In the 1960s and 1970s, the production company for the James Bond films, EON, had an office at the hotel.
Martin Brudnizki, a Swedish interior architect and product designer, created a bar in the area that originally housed The Bar at The Dorchester.
The bar’s top level, a cozy “snug,” and a Palladium leaf ceiling from the 1930s are all design elements. Along with modern pieces by artists like Rosie Emmerson, who is reported to have been influenced by Cecil Beaton, the bar will also display a selection of the artist’s work, including some of the original drawings and celebrity photography.
A dedicated Park Lane entry and an outdoor terrace with views of Hyde Park are also possible thanks to a new layout.
The cocktail menu, created by head bartender Lucia Montanelli, will feature both classic and creative drinks that are inspired by the hotel.
