After a five-floor excavation, Claridge’s has finally opened the doors to its new spa, which includes the hotel’s first pool.
Interior designer Andre Fu was inspired by Kyoto’s Zen gardens and traditional Japanese temples while creating the Claridge’s Spa.
Josh Wood, Augustinus Bader, and FaceGym are examples of resident brands, and a number of wellness professionals also come. The hotel’s trademark jade color will be used for French tip manicures by well-known Instagram nail artist Harriet Westmoreland, and acupuncturist Ross J. Barr will provide a variety of sessions, including a “psychological MOT.”
Excavating five storeys below to build the 7,000 square foot room, which is accessible from the main lobby, was a significant task for the hotel.
It has a heated pool with cabanas that are set back from the water and are surrounded by stone columns and a multi-vaulted ceiling.
Before a welcoming foot ceremony, guests are given kimonos in delicate pinks and peaches upon their arrival. Before their treatment, they are given a choice of incense, and bells signal the end of a treatment.
The unique 90-minute Bamboo & Silk Ritual, which combines a body massage with warmed bamboo sticks and seasonal herbs in hot oil-infused poultices, is one of the assortment of face and body treatments. After that, the client has a deep hand massage and a facial, during which the therapist applies mini-poultices to pressure spots on the face and decolletage while wearing silk thimbles on their fingers.
The spa offers treatments for hair, nails, and beauty at the Josh Wood at Claridge’s salon, which is run by British hair colorist Wood and his crew. Two seats can be found in the salon, as Wood noted: “This new space is not about the usual volume in a salon, but moreover about getting every strand right. The best of the best, there’s nothing that’s too much to ask.”
The Maybourne Hotel Group owns and operates Claridge’s, and Inge Theron, the creator of Facegym, serves as its creative director of spa and wellness.
Theron said: “We have created a spa here at Claridge’s where guests will find both holistic practices and results-driven high-tech all under one roof. Claridge’s has long been a temple of good living with a philosophy of enjoying life to the full, and so now, as well as pouring guests the perfect martini, we can also rejuvenate and restore with the perfect treatment, to strike that all important balance. Claridge’s Spa is the very beginning of a new wellness journey for Maybourne Hotel Group.”
The Claridge’s Spa is open Monday through Sunday from 8 am to 9 pm to both hotel guests and non-guests.
