Mauritius Removes Proof of Vaccination Upon Arrival

Beginning on Friday (1st July), Mauritius will no longer need travelers to show proof of vaccination upon arrival.

On the same day, the island will also lift the mandatory mask-wearing in hotels and the quarantine for unvaccinated guests. In public spaces including hospitals, airports, and public transportation, face coverings will continue to be worn.

The decision to further relax Covid restrictions, according to the Mauritian government, was made as a result of the nation’s “successful immunization campaign and resulting low infection rate.”

Before the upcoming regulatory changes, fully immunized travelers had to undergo lateral flow testing when they checked into their hotel, while partially immunized guests had to self-isolate for seven days and retest to be released.

On 1st October 2021, Mauritius reopened its borders, and since then, more than 500,000 people have come to visit.

Arvind Bundhun, director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, said he was “extremely pleased” the restrictions are being lifted as Mauritius is seeing “huge demand” from travelers. He said: “I am confident our post-pandemic recovery is well underway and with the easing of measures, bookings for the second half of 2022 will be stimulated.”
