Havila Capella Resume Operations Around the Norwegian Coast

Havila Capella will resume operations around the Norwegian coast on 28th June after being left without insurance due to an ongoing legal dispute over the ship’s Russian financing.

Due to the EU’s penalties against the leasing business GTLK Asia, the insurance companies terminated their contracts on the ship on 12th April. As a result, the ship has remained parked in Bergen ever since.

In an effort to compel a change in ownership of the Havila Capella, Havila has been working on strategies to acquire control of the ship. Among other things, the business has filed a petition with the High Court of England & Wales in London.

At the same time, the shipping business requested interim detention and compelled usage of the Havila Capella by filing a petition with the Hordaland District Court on 16th June. The court upheld the company’s motion on Monday, 20th June.

Havila Voyages’ chief executive, Bent Martini, stated: “Through the ruling from Hordaland District Court, we have been given the role of principal administrator of Havila Capella, with all the rights that a registered owner has.

“Over the next few days, we will seek to conclude the hull insurance for the ship, meaning Havila Capella can resume operations from 28 June, when she will embark on her next voyage along the Norwegian coast.

“It has been important for us to secure our values, and not least our greatest resource – our employees. We have always believed that we would find a solution and have chosen to keep everyone at work. We are pleased with that decision now.”
