Both Four Seasons and Rosewood Hotel & Resorts have announced plans to open hotels in Venice, as well as refurbish classic properties in the city.
Following an extensive renovation, Four Seasons will take over management of the historic Hotel Danieli in Venice.
When the renovations are finished, the property will be reopened as Hotel Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel in 2025.
The hotel, which is made up of three historic buildings connected by bridges, is located in the Riva degli Schiavoni neighborhood along the Grand Canal, and its interiors will be renovated by designer Pierre-Yves Rochon.
Bart Carnahan, Four Seasons’ president, global business development and portfolio management said, “Italy is a beloved and important destination for luxury travellers. With Hotel Danieli, we are adding another iconic property to our Italian portfolio, where we will honour the historic legacy of this Venetian landmark while also introducing the exceptional Four Seasons service experience to one of Italy’s most popular destinations.”
During its transformation, the hotel will remain open with “select” services and amenities available. It will be operated and managed by Gruppo Statuto under the name The Hotel Danieli, Venezia.
Meanwhile, Rosewood Hotel & Resorts has been chosen to manage Venice’s renowned Hotel Bauer.
The hotel is owned by real estate developer SIGNA Prime Selection and is located between the Grand Canal and St Mark’s Square.
Hotel Bauer, which was built in 1880, will close for a multi-year renovation beginning in November, after which it will reopen as Rosewood Hotel Bauer in 2025.
The work will be led by Venice-based architect Alberto Torsello and interior design firm BAR Studio, and Rosewood stated that sustainability will be emphasized throughout the restoration, with the hotel aiming to obtain three sustainability certificates – the Green Pass, Casa Klima, and LEED Gold.
Radha Arora, president of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and co-chief development officer said, “We are thrilled to be growing Rosewood’s presence in Europe with this pivotal addition in such a magnificent and beloved city like Venice. Across our portfolio we have been honored with opportunities to restore and reimagine many historic spaces across the globe, and we are incredibly thankful that Rosewood has been chosen to help breathe new life into Hotel Bauer.”
The Rosewood Hotel Bauer will have 110 rooms, with more than half of them being suites, including several signature suites and a presidential suite. On the eighth floor, there will also be a rooftop bar and garden, a wellness center, and an outdoor pool with a bar.
The Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany and the upcoming Rosewood Rome, set to open in 2024, round out the Italian portfolio. In the meantime, Rosewood Vienna will open this summer.
