A private home on Lake Como has been acquired by Villa d’Este Hotels.
Villa Belinzaghi is located directly on the lake’s banks, adjacent to Villa d’Este, and is surrounded by two acres of grounds, including a pier and dock.
Villa d’Este possessed the property until 1927, when it was sold. It returns to the portfolio as a private property for events, weddings, and exclusive-use stays.
Giulio Belinzaghi, Mayor of Cernobbio and afterwards Mayor of Milan, erected Villa Belinzaghi in 1860. In 1873, Belinzaghi and other Lombard lords are credited with converting Villa d’Este into a luxury hotel.
The three-story villa will be “meticulously refurbished” over the next two years, according to a statement from Villa d’Este Hotels, to enhance its historic elements while integrating modern amenities “for the 21st century audience.”
Dr. Giuseppe Fontana, the owner of Villa d’Este Hotels, described Villa Belinzaghi as “another cornerstone” of the company’s investment strategy.
“It is an important real estate asset and a fundamental addition to our portfolio,” he said.
“We will have another exclusive location that can host private events, like weddings, offering ultimate privacy.”
Villa d’Este Hotels’ chief executive, Davide Bertilaccio, added: “We are really proud of this acquisition. It is a piece of history that rejoins that of the hotel and is extremely important in terms of our development plans, as well as maintaining our heritage by projecting ourselves into the future.”
