3 Caribbean Destinations Relaxes Covid-19 Entry Restrictions

Covid-19 restrictions have been relaxed in three Caribbean destinations: the Dominican Republic, Grenada, and the Cayman Islands.

The Dominican Republic has postponed domestic Covid-19 measures, while Grenada has eased entry procedures to let visitors use fast antigen tests rather than more expensive PCR tests.

The following is an update on the UK Foreign Office’s travel advice for the Dom Rep: “On Wednesday 16 February 2022, Dominican authorities announced that with immediate effect all Covid-19 measures are suspended, including mask wearing, social distancing and proof of vaccination for public spaces and private spaces for public use. We will update this page as more details issue.”

Passengers coming from the United Kingdom must still submit a negative Covid-19 PCR or antigen test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival, or a vaccination card indicating two doses of the Covid vaccine, the last dose administered at least two weeks prior to travel.

Meanwhile, the tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique has reduced its entrance rules for vaccinated visitors, accepting either a 24-hour negative antigen test or a 72-hour pre-departure PCR test.

The Grenada Tourism Authority’s chief executive, Petra Roach, said: “We’re delighted to make it even easier for UK travelers to explore Grenada.

“Offering an antigen test means that visitors have extra flexibility, choice and a more cost-effective option to visit our islands.

“Throughout 2021 we saw strong visitor numbers from the UK and we believe the measures announced today will boost numbers further in 2022.”

Fully vaccinated travelers will no longer be needed to conduct on-island antigen testing on days two, five, and seven after arrival, according to the Cayman Islands government.

For all travelers aged five and up, a negative antigen or PCR test performed the day before arrival is still required for admittance.

Additionally, fully vaccinated travelers are no longer required to take a Covid-19 test before traveling between Grand Cayman and the sister islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman on a domestic level.
