Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas has announced that a hotel in Belize would open in 2025.
The resort and apartments will be spread out over two areas: a private island with overwater villas, a spa and wellness center, and a separate stretch of beachfront on Ambergis Caye.
On the island’s eastern and western beaches, a total of 44 one- and two-bedroom villas, as well as a three-bedroom house, will be built, the majority of which will be overwater bungalows with jetties.
The south of the island will contain an overwater sunset bar, an all-day Dining Village, a BBQ hut serving freshly prepared seasonal catches, a communal outdoor pool, and a children’s club, as well as unspoilt horizon views.
The surrounding landscape of inner wetlands and mangrove forests will be preserved as a natural preserve area for the island’s flora and wildlife, and will be made accessible to connect to the island’s biotope.
An Alchemy Bar, Holistic Anti-Aging Centre, fitness center, indoor and outdoor treatment facilities, a Temazcal lodge, and an outdoor yoga pavilion will be erected around the natural lagoons to the north of the preservation area. Natural healing, energy medicine, and traditional Mayan techniques will be the emphasis of spa treatments and wellness programs.
A plant-based Leaf restaurant with a raised observation lounge will also be erected in the north of the island, set among organic gardens. Six Senses also owns a sandbar near the island, where private picnics and “reconnection” events will be held.
The beachfront along Ambergis Caye will be a five-minute boat trip away, close to vibrant San Pedro, and will serve as Six Senses Belize’s main activity centre.
The 18-acre Secret Beach section includes a private beachfront as well as an Experience Centre that includes an outdoor pool, ice cream parlour, overwater restaurant, and Cinema Paradiso, which features nightlife and Belizean culture.
With a dive center, Marine Discovery, and a variety of activities, Secret Beach will be the major place for watersports. There are plans in the works for an organic garden with a mushroom hut, cooking school, food market, and teen club.
At Six Senses Belize, a variety of residences will be available for purchase. A total of 24 properties will be built on Secret Beach, ranging in size from two to seven bedrooms, while another collection of three, four, and five-bedroom residences will be located along the island’s central breezeway, surrounded by natural flora.
Each home will be situated between a mangrove forest and estuary on one side and a private stretch of beach on the other, allowing for indoor-outdoor living. Most rooms will have ocean views and beach access in the western houses, while the constructions farther east will feature raised living rooms and access to the pool gardens below.
Six Senses’ newest property will prioritize sustainability and conservation. The resort will operate with the goal of “longevity and low environmental impact,” with sustainable efforts such as renewable wood, solar panels, and green roof sections.
There are plans to revegetate red mangroves and plant species along the beach zone to further preserve the shoreline, and overwater structures have been created to offer a benthic habitat to boost biodiversity.
Chief Executive, Neil Jacobs said, “Throughout, the emphasis has been placed on sensitive integration of landscaping to connect guests with nature and allow for greater privacy and coveted ‘desert island’ appeal.”
“We’ve drawn inspiration from local craft and Belizean life, capturing the spirit and history of Mayan architecture and local heritage. Everything has been done to embody a new generation of travellers, eager to make memories, while preserving the island for future generations.”
