The world’s busiest airport has a new location, and it’s not where you’d expect.
According to aviation data researchers OAG, Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport was crowned as the world’s busiest international airport in August.
The airport’s large increase was most likely due to Europe’s summer season beginning, with travel-starved travelers flying from nation to country.
OAG measures the winning airport as the ‘busiest’ by looking at the scheduled capacity in any given month, putting it ahead of the previous number one – Dubai.
For example, in August, Schiphol had a capacity of 2,511,321 seats, while Dubai had 2,312,381 seats.
Despite coming out on top, Turkey’s Antalya airport recorded the largest increase in capacity. The airport was ranked 10th in August, up from 30th in August of last year.
“Antalya is a popular coastal resort in southern Turkey, and the Russian Federation and Germany account for slightly over two-thirds of its international market,” OAG said in a statement.
