Because of the ongoing threat of the Covid-19 epidemic, Australia has prolonged its travel prohibition until mid-December.
The ‘human biosecurity emergency period,’ which was supposed to finish on 17th September, has been extended until 17th December.
Since 18th March 2020, the emergency period has been in effect.
The extension was based on “expert medical and epidemiological advice” that the international Covid-19 situation “continues to pose an intolerable risk to public health,” according to the country’s health minister, Greg Hunt.
Unless an exception is granted, the law applies to those who live in Australia.
When 80 percent of individuals eligible have been fully vaccinated, inbound and outward travel restrictions will be eased.
As part of a return of selected foreign services, Qantas plans to resume flights to the United Kingdom in mid-December.
“The current pace of the vaccine rollout means all Australian states are on track to reach the 80% target by December – which is the trigger for starting to carefully open to some parts of the world,” stated CEO Alan Joyce last week.
