To comply with the traffic light limits for international travel, Scots returning from abroad will now be permitted to utilize private sector tests.
Government-approved providers are now available for anyone returning to the country. Travelers from Scotland had to book NHS home PCR tests in the past.
To ensure public health protections are maintained, the Scottish Government indicated it would be removing the prohibition from “early September.”
As a result of this, the UK government in Westminster has come under fire for include rogue testing companies on its list.
In a statement, Barrhead Travel’s Jacqueline Dobson termed the update “great news for the Scottish travel business.”
Scottish tourists have been disproportionately affected by rising expenses in recent months, and this action will help our recovery as travel reopens, she said.
A warning was issued: “The testing problems will not be over.” In order to bring prices down to an acceptable level, the UK government must step in.”
Dobson remarked on this: “Our counterparts in Europe have already recognized the need for affordable and accessible testing and the UK must follow suit in order to keep up with global travel recovery.”
In October, she added, “The next evaluation of the traffic light system is needed. “must address these issues as well as providing a robust roadmap on exactly how international travel can move forward from the remaining restrictions that are hampering our recovery”.
Humza Yousaf, the Scottish government’s cabinet secretary for health and social care, said this “provides more choice and flexibility for travelers and will provide a boost for the tourism and aviation sector”.
He stated, “We have had a regular engagement with the UK Government to understand the measures being taken to ensure test results will be communicated rapidly and reliably to both individuals and to contact tracing services.”
The UK government has also been chastised for its low levels of genome sequencing, a lab technique that may track variations of concern, which was cited as the primary basis for preferring the tests to the less expensive lateral flow antigen tests.
“We’ve also been told that any good results will be genomically sequenced to identify any mutations of concern quickly,” Yousaf said.
“The decision is a further validation of the tremendous success of our domestic vaccination rollout, and it carefully weighs the benefit to the travel sector against our obligation to the broader public health.”
