Ambassadors have agreed to add eight nations to the European Union’s “white list” of countries from which it welcomes non-essential travel, including the United States, but the United Kingdom has been left off.
According to multiple reports from reporters in Brussels, the United States, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Lebanon, Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong will be added to the list.
They will join Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and China on the so-called “white list.”
According to reports, the UK’s exclusion was due to its high number of cases per 100,000 people and the exponential development of infection by the Delta variety.
An EU ambassador told the Guardian, “There are serious concerns about Delta and surge of numbers.”
Every two weeks, the EU’s “white list” will be revised. Member states have the authority to set their own entrance criteria for visitors, which may include Covid testing and quarantine.
