Why you should be looking at the premium economy deals before the BA sale ends in 10 days.

For me the sweet spot in BA sales are always the World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) deals. And yet these deals are often overlooked because most people focus on either the super low economy prices or the business and first class deals that can offer savings of 30% -40%.
The reason why I focus on the World Traveller Plus deals is because I like to travel in Club World (business class).
Yes that’s right!
The best deals on Club World fares are achieved by buying Premium Economy. Let me explain how. British Airways only allows single cabin upgrades. In addition, the lowest fares in economy cannot be upgraded at all. All World Traveller Plus fares (excluding those bought as part of a package holiday) can however be upgraded to Club World using Avios. But this is not the only reason why you should book World Traveller Plus in the sale.
The biggest benefits come from the lower number of Avios you need to upgrade and also the tax benefits. Before you get excited, I am not an accountant and you will not be able to claim deductions at the end of this month when filing your tax returns by booking premium economy flights (well you might, but you will need to speak to your accountant). The taxes I am talking about are airport taxes!
Lower Avios and Tax
A flight from London Heathrow to Los Angeles in Club World costs £1,400 in the sale. If you book exclusively using Avios you will be spending 125,000 Avios plus £612.33. Booking World Traveller Plus in the sale will however only cost you £620. To upgrade to Club World will cost you 60,000 Avios for your return flights.
Saving and Earning Avios
Essentially, you are saving 65,000 Avios without paying any extra in taxes when you book and upgrade as compared to booking the whole flight on Avios. In addition, by buying your ticket rather than redeeming miles for it, you will earn almost 11,000 Avios as an entry level Blue Executive Club member or as many as 22,000 Avios as a Gold member when travelling. This is in addition to the 180 Tier Points.
